Can My Kids Use My Sauna?

kids use saunas

Summer is coming up and your kids will have a much-needed break from school. However, what about when school starts up again in the fall? Your kids will need a place for stress relief from their studies and an extra immunity boost against the common cold season. So you were considering getting a sauna this fall after you heard about their health and wellness benefits. However, you may be unsure if it’s the right fit for your whole family, especially if you have kids. “Can my kids use my sauna?” Yes, children can use saunas, but here are some steps you should take to ensure that your kids use them safely.

How Old Do My Kids Have to be to Use My Sauna?

Kids of any age can use saunas, but some experts recommend kids be 6 years or older before enjoying the heat. This is because young children can’t regulate their body temperature as well as adults. However, every child is different, so you should always consult their pediatrician before their first sauna session.

Because younger children have a hard time regulating body temperature, children who have not gone through puberty (typically 12 and under) should be supervised and only allowed to be in the sauna for 10-15 minutes at a time. Once they’re older, they can stay in the sauna as long as you.

Will They Even Enjoy the Sauna?

Let’s be honest: the one thing kids love more than anything is feeling like an adult. And if you haven’t let them enjoy the sauna with you before, that is something they consider an adult activity. So chances are, they’ll want to spend time in there.

As we all know, young children have short attention spans. So, they’ll probably be done with the sauna when the safe amount of time is up. They can’t have electronics or toys in there, so they’ll be ready to go; no need to worry about dragging them out. On the other hand, older kids will enjoy the benefits of the sauna, especially athletes. The heat of the sauna helps them relax their muscles and get ready for sleep. And, with the added benefit of no electronics allowed, the sauna makes a great opportunity for uninterrupted quality time.

Can My Kids Use My Current Sauna?

Any sauna is perfect for kids. There are two main types of saunas: traditional and infrared. Traditional saunas use both wet and dry heat and are traditionally used in Finland for wellness and quality time. On the other hand, infrared saunas are more popular in the United States. These are the ones you’ll mainly see for sale in stores. Though they use infrared heat, they still provide the same benefits as traditional saunas. Some even prefer infrared saunas for children because the temperature doesn’t get as high, and children may be able to spend more time safely in the sauna.

If you’re in the market for a new sauna, you’re in luck! At Energy Center-Manhattan Pool, we sell both traditional and infrared Finnleo® saunas. These saunas can be custom cut to fit whatever size space (and family) you have. Indoor or outdoor, you will be able to spend some great quality time with your family all year round, while receiving amazing health benefits.
